Carlsbad Travel Mini

Today over on the Scrapbook Circle blog I'm sharing my completed travel album documenting our trip to the beach last week. The Scrapbook Circle blog challenge this month is to create a mini travel album and I knew that I wanted to play along.

I thought I'd share a few of the album pages here today.

The Heidi Swapp Color Magic File Folders that I used as a base for this album were so much fun to work with. They start out white and are perfect for misting. They take the color really well and I love how bright it turned out.

Project Life: May 13 - 20

With all of the end of school activities and then a trip to the beach, I'd fallen a bit behind, actually 4 weeks behind, on my Project Life pages.

 
I spent some time last weekend getting all of the pictures printed for the pages. I printed many of the pictures big enough to fit the photo pockets so that paper and embellishments weren't needed to fill that space. It made putting the pages together go a lot faster, but they don't necessarily have fancy embellishments. I'm okay with that because the pages are now finished.

Since it was Mother's Day this week I had a bunch of picutres that I wanted to include, but didn't have room in the regular spread. I just cut down one of the page protectors to add a space for these photos.

The supply list was pretty simple for this week because I really wanted to use up the last bits of The Story Kit. So I challenged myself to mainly stick to the scraps from that kit and only added a couple of other things.

Celebrating 4th of July + A Giveaway

Celebrating the 4th of July together is one of our favorite family traditions. Most years we brave the 100+ degree heat and go to a community parade in my parents neighborhood. I was just going through some older pictures and came across some photos from the 4th of July parade from 2005. It's hard to believe how quickly our kids are growing up.

I did a double 8.5 X 11 page for this layouts. It's been a while since I've done this size, but it just seemed to fit the photos.

Everything on this page is from the Scrapbook Circle Let Freedom Ring kit except for the white cardstock used as a base.

Last Minute Thank Yous

Considering the fact that I have so much patterned paper and embellishments at my house, you'd think that I should have a pile of cards made and ready to hand out for any occasion. The reality is that every time I need a card for something, I scramble to quickly put something together. Maybe that will change someday, but for now there is not a nice, neat stack of ready made cards.

Last Wednesday was my kids' last day of school and that morning I realized that we needed cards for their teachers. We did have a small gift ready for the teachers, but no card. I quickly worked at my scrapbook desk and put three similar cards together.

Thanks to the beautiful pre-made flowers from my friend Tessa's etsy shop, Precocious Paper, these cards had a perfect focal element and came together quickly.

The patterned paper bases of the cards are from a DCWV card set that I've had for years that I just uncovered in a box recently. Still love those patterns and I was happy to use the cards.

With the addition of some label stickers and a handwritten "thank you", these cards were ready to go.

I'm so thankful for the great teachers our kids had this year. Now it's time to enjoy summer break!

Love My Boys + Project Life

Since Father's Day will be here soon, the Glitz challenge this month is to create a page with a masculine theme. I hope you will link up your creations here on the Glitz blog! 

For this challenge, I decided to do a page focused on my husband and son.  A couple of weeks ago the three of us were on a bike ride and I snapped a photo of the two of them ahead of me riding. I knew that the picture needed to be used on a layout.

The background of this layout was really fun to make. I cut the honeycomb pattern with my Silhouette on two different sheets of patterned paper. The outline of the honeycomb was attached to the page and then filled in with both patterns showing from the two patterned papers.

All of the Glitz love themed products in the Happy Travels line were perfect accents for this page. I especially love the "love you in the morning, afternoon and evening" stickers.

The second project I'd like to share today is a Project Life spread where lots of Glitz products were used.

The Pretty in Pink line was perfect for these pages because of all of the positive quotes and word stickers in this line.

Have you used the Teeny Glitz alphas and love them as much as I do? I ended up using two different colors of the alphas on these pages. They are just the right size for adding a title our journaling without taking up too much space.

40th Anniversary Album

My parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday. My siblings and I decided that it would be fun to put together an album filled with memories and photos for our parents. My siblings, spouses and the grand kids each wrote about my parents. I paired the written thoughts with photos taken throughout the past 40 years.

The design is pretty simple because I really wanted the focus to be on words + photos. The album base is 6 X 8 inch pieces of kraft cardstock. Then photos, words mounted on cardstock and washi tape were added to give a bit of color.

This is a just a little sampling of the pages. At first, I was going to do a "40 Things We Love About You" theme, but we ended up with more than 40 thoughts, so just kept the theme as a celebration of 40 years together. It was a pretty thick album and 2 inch binder clips were barely big enough to hold it altogether.

My parents loved the album!
