Happy Day @ Grimaldi's

While we were in NYC this month, we knew that we wanted to have some really delicious thin crust New York style pizza and decided that Grimaldi's Pizza in Brooklyn was the place to go. As I mentioned last week, we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. Our destination after crossing the bridge was Grimaldi's. We walked about a mile after getting off the bridge and the kids were not sure if they would survive until lunch.

Once we arrived at Grimaldi's, we were met by a line out the door. We expected the wait and the line thankfully moved pretty quickly.

Each of the kids got to order a bottled soda and Max tried cream soda for the first time. He thought it was a winner!

We (my friend Janet and I plus our 6 kids) almost finished off 3 very large pizzas. I think all of our walking helped us work up a good appetite.

Eating Our Way Through Portland

Last weekend my husband and I were lucky enough to get away for a weekend with just the two of us. We went to Portland, Oregon for the first time and loved every minute of it. (Well, I guess we didn't love the football game we went to where Arizona lost to Oregon 49-0, but it was still fun.)

One of our favorite things to do when we travel is find good places to eat. We certainly did our share of eating during our 4 day vacation. The key is to share things and order portions as small as possible so that you will still be hungry when another delicious food opportunity presents itself. Our favorite way to find new places is to use Yelp. It hasn't led us astray yet.

Of course, not only do we enjoy eating the food, but we like to take pictures of it too. Luckily, my husband loves taking pictures as much as I do, so we always have a nice collection of photos once we return home from vacations.

Here are our favorite food finds from the trip:

Pine State Biscuits - Fresh biscuit sandwiches piled high with fried chicken, eggs and lots of other topping options. We found this place while we were out looking at some shops. There was a long line out the door, so we consulted Yelp to discover that this is a 4 1/2 star place that we must try.

Cacao - Spiced Dark Hot Chocolate. Need I say more? You can also get a shot glass of super dark chocolate. May have to try that if we go back.

Grilled Cheese Grill - This place cooked up one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. I tried the BABS (Bacon, thinly sliced apples, crumbled bleu cheese and swiss on rye.) Of course, we ordered tomato soup to go with it. The coolest thing about this place is that you get to eat on an old school bus.

Thai Food Truck - Sorry, I don't have a link to this one, but Portland has over 600 food trucks and it seems like at least 1/3 served Thai food, so if you visit Portland I'm sure you'll find something good.

Salt & Straw - Homemade ice cream with amazing flavors. I had the salted carmel and really wanted to back the next day for more.

Thankfully we did a lot of walking so I'm hoping we didn't do too much food damage.

Did you see that the October Scrapbook Circle Kit, New Flash, went live today?  Loving the pretty colors and embellishments in this kit.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend! We don't have any set plans for tonight which sounds perfect to me. We'll probably pick up some dinner and relax at home.

Passport Photos

In a couple of months we are going to Mexico and so we needed to get passports for our kids. I took them to Costco for the passport photos and we received 2 of each photo. When I turned in the passport application, they only needed one photo. So what should I do with the extra passport photos? Make a layout, of course!

Everything on the page came from the Scrapbook Circle The Good Life Kit plus I used some of these Amy Tangerine Bits.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Photos of Food

I love taking pictures of my food. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this? I seem to especially take food photos when I'm on vacation. I think that I just want to be able to capture everything from my vacation and food is usually a very enjoyable part of traveling.

While our family was visiting Boston last October, we heard about Clear Flour Bread and we were told that we must make a stop there.

We went and waited outside in the cold in a pretty long line just to try out the fresh baked daily bread and pastries. It was definitely worth the wait! Just look at that beautiful sunflower bread. Amazing!

Last November I had the chance to go to New Orleans with my husband and so friends. We had heard that we had to have beignets at Cafe du Monde. So we did. Three different times.

Just in case you don't know (because I didn't know) beignets and square French style doughnuts served piping hot and drenched in powdered sugar. Delicious!

Vienna and Camping

This summer I was lucky enough to get to go on two fabulous vacations. One was a camping trip to the beach in San Diego and the other was a trip with my husband to Austria.

We started off our summer beach camping with friends for a few days near San Diego. We fell asleep to the sound of the waves each night and ate way too much while relaxing at the beach.

I put together a layout with a few of my favorite photos from the camp site.

One of the cities we visited in Austria was Vienna. I combined photos from a few of my favorite sites around Vienna for this layout.
The Glitz frame stamp made a perfect accent for my photos.Such great vacations!

Supplies
Camping layout: Glitz Kismet paper, glitzers, alpha and frosting.
Vienna layout: Glitz Distressed Couture paper, stickers and red alpha.

Thanks for stopping by today!
