Glitz Blog Hop >>> Paper Pads

Hello and welcome to the May Glitz blog hop! Today we are sharing layouts featuring the awesome Glitz 6 X 6 and 8 X 8 paper pads.

I love these small papers and use them on almost all of my pages. Today I want to share a layout where the entire background of the layout is created by layering 6 X 6 papers and then topped with an 8 X 8 paper.

Putting four of the smaller papers together is the perfect way to create a custom background. This is an especially useful tip when you don't have a full 12 X 12 paper to use.

Stitch Fix #2

It was so much fun getting a box of new clothes last month and I've been looking forward to my second box. My second Stitch Fix box arrived on Friday. Stitch Fix is a monthly subscription service where clothes are chosen in my size and styles I like and sent to me. I have three days to decide what I want to keep and then mail back what I don't like.

I'm wishing now I'd actually done my hair today, so my pictures would look a bit better, but these will have to do.

Striped Tee with Gold Button Sleeves

This shirt was a winner. Loved the basic tee with gold button detailing along the sleeves.

Coral Shirt and Black Skirt

I do like the black knit skirt, but I already have a similar skrit. The coral shirt was a great color, but I didn't really love the fit, so there two items are going back.

Cream Lace Shirt

This casual lace shirt was pretty and lightweight. I layered it over an olive green tee, but it could go over any color. I think it would be great with both jeans or a skirt.

Navy Striped Dress

The dress was okay, but kind of made of a heavy material. I prefer lightweight materials since it is so hot here in AZ, so the dress is going back.

So this month, two new shirts were added to my closet and I didn't even have to leave my house or spent time looking for new clothes. Love it!  Can't wait to see what come next month!

Here's a look at my Stitch Fix #1.

Happy Memorial Day

Our family has been enjoying a wonderful 3 day Memorial Day weekend. This morning we went to my parent's house for our annual family breakfast. After a fabulous breakfast where I ate way too much, we went to the cemetery to visit my grandparent's grave.

I am so grateful for all those who have served in our military and have sacrificed so we can have the freedoms we have today. I'm also so thankful for all of my family members who have come before us and paved the way for the life we enjoy today.

Glitz Design >>> Sequin Week

This week on the Glitz blog, we were asked to create a layout using sequins. Fun, right?

I've never used sequins on a page. I had to go to the craft store and buy sequins for this project. Looks like I'll be using more sequins on projects not only because I like how they look, but because the little package of sequins has so many pieces it will probably last me for years.

I had a lot of fun creating this page. Once the idea came to me for creating strips of paper and rows of sequins, it came together pretty quickly.

I'm so happy that one of the activities that keeps Audrey occupied while we are driving is taking pictures of herself. She usually deletes them, but this time she left them on my phone. How could I resist using them on a page?

I loved the bright and sparkly look the sequins added to the page!

New Order Concert

Last month (the week before we moved!) Ward and I spent one night in Vegas at a New Order concert.  Seeing this band was on my husband's wish list and he put the trip together and made it happen.

We had a really fun trip. We flew over on a Thursday morning and started the day at the Paris hotel cafe where we ate crepes for breakfast. Not a bad way to start the day! We went to an Andy Warhol exhibit at the Bellagio and then did a tour of Zappos new office space. We spent a little time by the pool before we got ready for the concert.

We were able to get a room at the concert hotel that had a balcony overlooking the pool which was where the concert was taking place. We sold our concert tickets and watched the concert from a lounge chair on our balcony.  Best concert seats ever!

The starting point for this page was this May Scrapbook Circle sketch designed by Diana.

If you want to play along with the sketch and have a chance to win a May Scrapbook Circle Kit or a Lily Bee Destinations Collection Pack, you can go here for all of the details.

Are you ready for the weekend?  We will be celebrating Audrey's 13th birthday this weekend. It seems absolutely impossible that she is turning 13, but it is true. We'll celebrate with some shopping tomorrow morning and then some time at the lake. On Sunday we will have a family dinner party. Fun times!

Project Life: March 31, 2013

It's been a while since I shared a Project Life spread. Remember a month or more ago when I said I was all caught up and current? Well, I haven't worked on the project since, so now I'm several weeks behind. Oh well! I'm still taking pictures and collecting things, so when the time and mood are right, I'll be ready to go on this again.

I really do love that this project helps me use up a lot of leftover product from my layouts. This week I also worked in paint chips that have the colors we decided to paint some of the rooms in our new house. It's great that I actually have a place to store these little bits of our family story with this album.

It was a pretty simple week and now it's in the book!

The Evolution of a Layout

A couple of weeks ago I shared the details of my first Stitch Fix on this post. Seriously, it was so fun to get a surprise box of clothes to try on. Even though I only kept a couple of items, I loved the experience of getting really cute clothes in my size and delivered to my door. Of course I snapped a few photos of things and decided to make a layout about it.

I feel like I really did a terrible job capturing good pictures of things, but when they are printed small, it still works for recording the memory. Next time, I'll aim for better lighting!

All of the layout supplies are from the May Scrapbook Circle My Favorite Kit and add-on. I loved using those Lily Bee label stickers for the journaling.

A funny thing about this layout is that it started out looking totally different. I'd printing the pictures and started arranging some of the kit pieces of my desk for this layout. It wasn't feeling right. Here's a look at where this page started:

Sometimes I start and page and it just doesn't feel that it's working. This time I pulled everything off of the page and tried a new background paper and a new arrangement of the page elements. I ended up still using the Lily Bee Labels, little corrugated person and the flair. I also used a fabric frame, but it was one with a different print.

I always think the evolution and creation of a page is one of the best things about scrapbooking. Love that creative process!

Glitz Designs: Woodgrain

This week on the Glitz Designs blog we are sharing ideas for incorporating woodgrain designs into your projects.

With all of the cool Glitz woodgrain options, it wasn't hard to create a page with a lot of woodgrain!

I wouldn't normally layer woodgrain on woodgrain, but it think it really works with this page. I love that the wood tones give a neutral background and then the pops of color can really stand out.

I was excited to incorporate this photo of my husband and I into a page. We snapped it last month while we were in Vegas for the night for a Postal Service concert. We had a very fun (and brief) visit to Vegas. We fit in brunch at the Paris Hotel, an Any Warhol exhibit at the Bellagio, an afternoon treat of frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3, time by the pool, dinner at the Cosmopolitan and then the Postal Service concert. It was quite the day!

Hello, Monday

I really love Mondays. It is the perfect day to get organized and all set for a full and productive week. I'm working through my email and several book keeping tasks this morning, but thought I'd take a break and share a couple of cards I made last week.

It's been quite a while since I've made a card, but I needed a couple to give to friends.

This "Hello Friend" card has an envelope pocket on the front and a little pull out note inside. It is just a card front and it doesn't open.

My other card was made for my daughter's friend's Bat Mitzvah. This was the first time we'd attended a Bat Mitzvah and it was really interesting and they really know how to throw a party.

We had a fantastic Mother's Day yesterday! We celebrated with my mom and Ward's mom along with our siblings and my dad. Everyone contributed to a really delicious Mediterranean meal topped off with homemade baklava made by my dad.  It was our first party at our new house and I'd say it was a success!

Right after church, Ward snapped a photo of the kids and I on our front porch and I think it's one of my new favorites.

Wishing you a happy week!

Happy Mother's Day!

Everyday isn't easy. Everyday comes with challenges. Everyday has countless blessing. Everyday is an adventure. Everyday I am grateful to be a mother. Happy Mother's Day to my mom and all of my amazing friends who care for children and mother others everyday.

I hope you'll take two minutes and watch this video, "Every Time a Child is Born, So is a Mother." My favorite thought from the video is "Life doesn't come with a  manual, it comes with a mother." Enjoy!

Collecting Magnets

This week Scrapbook Circle was featured on the Lily Bee blog and so I created a page using mainly Lily Bee products from the May My Favorite kit to share on their site.

This page was about our family's magnet collection. We like to add magnets to the collection whenever we go on vacation. We have magnets from places nearby in Arizona, all over the US plus even a few from Europe and Costa Rica.

Collecting magnets is a pretty inexpensive way to collect souvenirs and they don't take up a lot of space once we are home. We don't really have any big trips planned for the rest of this year, so we may not be adding a lot to the collection soon.

If you want a chance to win a Scrapbook Circle May Kit or a Lily Bee Destinations Collection Pack, you can play along with our sketch challenge.   Here's a look at the sketch:

All of the giveaway details can be found here.

Hope you are having a great Saturday. We've already been to the GIlbert Farmer's Market for breakfast, and Sam's Club for Mother's Day food. Next we are off to a flag football game and then tonight we will  be at our girls' Chandler Children's Choir concert. Maybe I'll even squeeze in a nap this afternoon! Sounds like my kind of day.

Glitz Designs: Celebrating Women

With the new Glitz Design Team, our assignments have been changed up a bit and we now get to create something each week based on the blog theme for the week.  This week our theme is all about celebrating women, girls and mothers. You can stop by the Glitz blog to see inspiration all week!

I decided to create a layout with a photo taken with my kids last year on Mother's Day.

The main ingredient for this page was the 6 X 6 Glitz Love You Madly paper pad. I started with a plain white piece of cardstock, added some splatters of mist and then all of the other paper you see is from the mini pad.

Even the "to know you is to love you" text is from one of the 6 X 6 papers. One of the great things about that paper pad is that it has different paper designs than what is offered in their 12 X 12 papers plus they are all double sided!

I handcut all of the hearts, attached them with a little adhesive and then sewed them to the page. I'm loving the 3D effect!

Thanks for stopping by today. Hope you have a fantastic week!
