My 15-Layer Cake!

My incredibly talented baking sister, Michelle, made an amazing cake for my birthday (in September.) I've been wanting to document the cake and I finally did a layout about it this weekend.Since the cake had so many layers, I decided to go with that theme and layer a lot of paper together to create this layout. Lots of layers in the flowers and several layers of background paper.

I distressed all of the edges with my fingernail. I've decided that the paper distressing tools take longer to use and I have more control with my own fingers.
All of the paper is from Lily Bee and the alphas are from Cosmo Cricket and Jenni Bowlin.

P.S. Yes, the cake tasted as good as it looked!

UR Number 1 Card

We survived our busy Saturday today! Soccer games were great (Max scored the two goals for his team!) and I didn't even have to make dinner.

Just wanted to share a quick card that I just made this week. I love the red, white and blue color combo. I'm still loving the cardboard alphas. Hope you're weekend is going well!

All of the supplies are from Jillibean Soup, except for the Kraft Bazzil cardstock.

Ready for the Weekend

Are you ready for the weekend? I am! We had a great start tonight by doing a family movie night and watching "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." It was such a fun and clever movie. Perfect for the kids and adults!

Tomorrow we have 2 soccer games, 2 soccer parties and 2 birthday parties. Good times.

I've had a little more playtime with the new Jillibean Soup paper that came this week. (The paper is for an upcoming SC kit!)

Here's a look at one of the cards I made. Loving the Jillibean birdhouse paper. So fun. And of course those corrugated alphas are great. They do come in green, but I only have the kraft colored letters. So I got my paint out and painted the letters green. I love getting my hands messy. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a great weekend!

My Happy Boy

Some new Jillibean Soup goods just arrived this week and I couldn't wait to create with them.

I LOVE the paper I used on this layout for the background. The text on the paper gives an interesting and subtle pattern. I may need a few more sheets of this paper! The reverse side of the text paper is the lovely green paper that is right under the photos in the layout. Love that shade of green. I'm pretty sure that is my favorite color right now.
For the pleating, I cut three 1" x 12" strips of paper. I folded some of them so that the reverse side of the paper would show. I used a glue stick and some glue dots to get the pleats to lay flat and neat. What do you think of the photos? I took them of my son after church one Sunday when we were visiting a friend who had just had a new baby. I looked outback and saw him jumping on the trampoline in his suit. He looked so happy and I just had to take a few photos to help me remember the moment.

Bountiful Basket

We have been getting a bountiful basket from a local co-op for a couple of years. We never know what we are going to get in our basket, but that is part of the fun!
I decided to take pictures of everything that came in our last basket. We've tried new fruit and vegetables and we always have healthy options around the week after getting our basket.

Can't wait until we get to pick up our next basket!

The product came from this layout came from the Scrapbook Circle March kit, except for the line background paper.

Super Max

As soon as I took this photo, I knew something needed to be created with it.Yesterday I had some time to play with the March Scrapbook Circle kit and I used this photo for this layout.I love the new Jenni Bowlin banner stickers and bingo letters. So fun!

The red lines were red paint stamped using corrugated cardboard. I wrote an article for CK online last year using this painting technique. You can check it out HERE is you want to see more painted line examples. Can't wait to get some more playtime with this kit!

Our Weekend + Scrapbook Circle March Peeks

How has your weekend been? We've been happily busy.

We had 2 soccer games yesterday morning where we braved rain and wind. We were totally not prepared for bad weather and nearly froze. Well, in AZ "nearly freezing" is around 54 degrees, so it wasn't too terrible!

We had friends come over for dinner last night. We grilled up a bunch of chicken and carne asada for tacos and burritos PLUS one other special ingredient...cactus! We saw it at the grocery store and couldn't resist grilling it up.It kind of tasted like a green bean. It wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. This afternoon I had some time to play with the upcoming Scrapbook Circle March kit! The colors are so bright and happy.
I made one layout with the kit tonight that I will share tomorrow after taking a photo of it in decent light.

More info on the kit is here.

Looking forward to a great week!

Quick Birthday Idea

I'm always trying to think up a quick and thoughtful gift to give to my friends for their birthdays. A couple of days ago, I put this together for a friend.I love that my mom gave me three boxes of these jars. I'm having so much fun altering them. I'm also enjoying using my silhouette to cut out fuzzy vinyl shapes.

The friend who I gave this too doesn't eat chocolate, so I had to think up a treat that didn't include chocolate. I found these really good yogurt covered pretzels in the bulk bins at Sprouts and decided they would be perfect for this birthday jar. Here's a look at the birthday card I made to do with the jar.I used up some old Basic Grey paper and a Making Memories sticker. I love using up older products!

Happy Birthday to My Mom

Yesterday was my mom's birthday and I had fun celebrating with her. One of the great things about living near my parents is getting to celebrate special occasions together.

We started off our day at Liberty Market in downtown Gilbert. This is a newer restaurant that took an existing old market and converted it into a restaurant.I enjoyed this delicious veggie scramble. This was so good. They also serve lunch here , but I think their breakfast is better than lunch. We spent the evening at my house for dinner, presents and a delicious lemon coconut cake that my sister made. The weather was so nice that we decided to eat out on the back porch! Here's a look at the birthday card I made for my mom.I used up most of the last scraps from my Scrapbook Circle February kit. I loved using the label shaped paper as the base for the card.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Notebooks for Lucy

I can't get enough of the Cosmo Cricket Material Girl line. Love the colors, designs and how easy it is to create with.

This afternoon I put together a couple of notebooks for my niece using the Material Girl goods.

I had fun layering lots of goodies on the cover of this first notebook. The pleated ruler paper and flowers give a little dimention to the cover. This next notebook is a little smaller at 4 x 6 inches.I'm pairing these two notebooks with a new set of markers for Lucy's birthday. Too bad her birthday was two weeks ago. Need to get these in the mail!

The supplies for the notebooks came from the Scrapbook Circle February kit. The black heart images are from this House of 3 dingbat set.

Cool Tape

Look at this great packing tape I found at Michael's today.
Each roll was only $1. At that price, I had to get one of each style.

Now I need to figure out how I want to use them!

Quick Valentine Cards

My youngest two kids wanted to buy premade valentines at the store (Wizards of Waverly Place for my 5-year-old and some Penguin valentines for my 7-year-old.)

My oldest daughter wanted to put something together that was a little more unique. We found some valentine notebooks and pencils at Target. We punched a hole in each notebook and tied the pencil, a tag we made and a sucker to the notebook. It was a fun project and my daughter did most of the work! This afternoon I put valentines together for my family to give on valentines day. Here's a look at the cards. I just love kraft paper. I used that a a base for each of the 4X4 inch cards.I love the Fancy Pants Valentine paper with all of these small valentine cards that I used on these 3 cards. Just love the colors and playful style.Anyone have any fun plans for Valentine's Day?

Sugar Cookies!

One of our favorite valentine traditions is looking forward to grandma's homemade sugar cookies.

Today was the day that the cookies were made.

Her cookies are perfectly thick cover generously with pink cream cheese frosting. Heavenly.
Each of the kids got a heart box filled with their own cookies. How lucky!

(My husband and I got a container of cookies to share.)

Thanks mom!

Baby Shower Gift Wrap

A couple of weeks ago I bought a few glass jars at IKEA. I used all but one of the jars on this project. I had one jar left and it was quite big. I didn't want to fill it with food, because it was just too big.

I was trying to figure out what to do with this large jar and then I had an idea...I could fill it with baby clothes to give tonight at a baby shower I'm going to.With the help of my Silhouette, this came together really fast. I just typed out the word "sweet" using this dingbat font and used Saru's Dingbat Flowers too.The tag is from the Pink Paislee die cut sheet in the January SC kit.I'm thinking that my friend who is having a baby could use this jar to store her baby's hair bows after her baby is born.I love the the wrapping is part of the gift and will last longer than the cute 3 month sized clothes inside the jar.

Now I need to go back to IKEA for more jars!

Be Mine Valentine

I've been having so much fun this week playing with my Silhouette and black fuzzy vinyl. With glass jars from IKEA and the Silhouette, I've come up with some simple and sweet valentine gifts for my kids' teachers.
I used this House of 3 Valentine Dingbat font along with my own fonts that I have on my computer. I just typed out the images I wanted and let the Silhouette do all of the cutting work for me.The first thing into the jars was sugar. Rhonna did this on some similar jars and I loved how it looked! What do you think?I then layered Valentine M&Ms (both plain and peanut.) I also put in a few dark chocolate M&M's. The dark chocolate comes in shades of purple, pink and white. Love the purple!
I topped the M&M's with chocolate covered pretzels. Costco is selling big bags of Hershey's chocolate covered pretzels right now. They are so delicious, I had to show serious restraint not eat the entire bag myself.

All of these jars came together last night. Super easy and fun!

Good Morning Grapefruit

My parents' backyard has many citrus tress. They live only 15 minutes from us. I love this time of year because their citrus trees are packed with fruit.

For the past couple of weeks, this is what my breakfast has looked like.As a kid, I thought that I needed a heaping tablespoon of sugar poured over the grapefruit to make it edible. Now I love it plain. Delicious!

Baby Banner

My friend who had this cute baby asked me to help her make a banner with her baby's name.

My friend wanted a big banner that would fill a large archway in her house. We used a large Jenni Bowlin die cut paper as a template for each of the banner pieces.

Here's a look at the finished banner.I had to cover both sides of the banner because it was going to be hanging where both sides would be seen. Here's a look at the back of the banner.I had fun incorporating a few black and white baby photos into the banner. I think it adds a nice personal touch. Each banner piece has a photo dangling from it.Here's an up close look at the back side of the banner. It was so fun to create a project for this sweet little baby!

All of the supplies are from the Cosmo Cricket Earth Love line.
