I Love Banners!

You would think that I would tire of making banners, but for some reason, I just love them. They are a perfect way to decorate a little space.  After making a few layouts, I still had a bunch of pieces left from the Scrapbook Circle Only You kit and decided that it would be perfect for a banner.

The base of most of the banners pieces came from a 1959 dictionary that used to be my grandmas. I love using the pages from that dictionary in projects. I figure that it makes the book more meaningful because I get to look at  the pages displayed in my house rather than just have the book collect dust on a shelf.

I just set out all of the remaining pieces from the kit and started misting, cutting and layering things.

All of the banner pieces are attached with Glitz Designs paper garland (in the kit.) I dabbed little dots of glue to line up with the banner pieces and glued the garland to the top of the banner.

For fun, I added different sized banner pieces including little tickets, an Elle's Studio tag and the"sweet" die cut tag from Fancy Pants.

That's it!  I don't do a lot of decorating for Valentine's Day, but I do like to add a few love themed touches here and there.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you are enjoying this day of love and friendship. My husband and I went on a breakfast date this morning after dropping the kids off at school. This afternoon I'll be over at the school helping with class parties. This is such a fun holiday!

I had an extra hour in the middle of the day today and decided that we needed another Valentine banner around our house. Yes, I have many other pressing things to do, but sometimes I just need to make something!

The base of the banner is some heart doilies that I found out in our garage. Love it when cool and useful things make an appearance at our house.

This was a great place to use up some valentine products. I kept the banner really simple and just layered up a few pieces on each doilie.

All of the cardstock pieces were run through a Xyron machine to make them adhesive. It was a quick way to stick everything together.

The chipboard pieces are self adhesive, so they just stuck right onto the doilie without needing to add adhesive.

Once each of the hearts was finished, I pinned them to the hot pink ric rac and sewed the doilies to the ric rac. It's a quick way to make sure it's secure and not have to mess with adhesive.

Hope you enjoy celebrating those you love today!

Love Banner

Yesterday I mentioned that I was working on a Love banner with some doilies as the base. The banner is now finished and I'm excited to share it with you.

I just folded the doilies in half and hung them on some large white ric rac. The doilies are glued together, but not glued to the ric rac.

These Vintage Valentine Tags from Elle's Studio added such a fun touch to the banner. Plus, the Design Embellishments from the Fancy Pants It's the Little Things line added a perfect "love" touch to the project.

I used my Silhouette to cut out the "LOVE" letters and several hearts from fuzzy white vinyl. On the L piece of the banner, I misted one of hearts a dark pink before sticking it to the doilie. The fuzzy white vinyl is great because I can mist it any color I need.

For the O piece of the banner, I cut those tickets with the Silhouette and then layered them with a Glitz sticker and the O.

For the V piece of the banner, I layered more misted fuzzy white vinyl with a Vintage Valentine Tiny Tag from Elle's Studio.

I really like how the dark pink misted heart contrasts with the pink doilie.

I finished off the banner with another Fancy Pants card and an Elle's Studio tag.

There's the full banner. I having it hanging in our family room on a mirror that hangs over our fireplace. I just taped the ric rac to the back of the mirror.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Are you working on any Valentine projects?

Valentine Banner

I had to run to Walmart a couple of weeks ago to pick something up. On my way in, I saw a Valentine display with some heart dollies. The dollies made their way into my cart and I knew that they would be used on some sort of Valentine project.

A few days later, I decided to use the heart dollies as the base for a Valentine banner. I love banners and can't seem to get enough of them!

My second inspiration for the banner was my new Silhouette. It came with a roll of fuzzy black vinyl and I was excited to incorporate it into a project. After deciding on the "XOXO" theme for the banner, I cut the black letters out of the fuzzy vinyl. It really has a cool look at feel in person.
This was a great project to use up lots of bits and pieces of Valentine themed things I have around. A lot of the pieces came from this kit and this kit.
The dollies were not a solid enough base, so I cut triangles out of double-sided patterned paper and placed the dollies on top of the triangles. This worked out perfectly since I'm hanging the banner from a mirror and the back of the banner reflects the back side of the patterned paper in the mirror.I felt like this was a very busy banner and did not want to clutter it by tying ribbons between each banner piece. I decided to find something that I could just clip the banner pieces to. In my ribbon drawer was a yard of red felt with dots punched in it and it was the perfect base for hanging the banner pieces. Thanks to 4 Tim Holtz clips, each banner piece was quickly attached to the felt ribbon. Now I'm in the mood to make more Valentine decorations. Any good ideas?

Banner in Progress

This morning I woke up with an idea for a Valentine banner, so I got out of bed and got to work. There wasn't much time to play because I'm leaving for CHA this morning, but I have a good start.

One of the things that got me excited to make the banner is this new toy that arrived this week.
I'm so excited to get to play with this! It's a die cutting machine that will cut any true type font including dingbats. Very fun.

I have some fuzzy black vinyl and decided to cut "XOXO" out using the Shilouette.

Here's a look at how the banner is shaping up so far.
I picked these red heart dollies up at Walmart a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know what I'd use them for, but I knew they would be put to good use.

Hopefully I will finish up the banner once I'm home next week. I'll be sure to show the finished project.

Have a great weekend!
