Birthday Tag Card

Today I'd like to share a project with you that takes the idea of an ordinary birthday card and makes it more meaningful and interactive by adding pages, pockets and tags.

I put this interactive birthday card together for my daughter to fill out and give to a friend for her birthday. Here's a look at how it was put together.

1. Cut 3 sheets of patterned paper cut to 8" by 8.5".

2. With the 8" side facing you, fold the bottom of the paper up 2" to form a place for the pocket. Then for the paper in half. Repeat for each of the three pages.

3. Use a sewing machine to sew up the sides of the pockets on the three pages. You could use staples if you don't want to sew.

4. Stack the three pages in the order you want them to be in the album. Sew the pages together down the center of the pages on the crease. Instead of sewing, you could punch holes and tie the pages together with ribbon.

5. Now the pages are assembled and ready to embellish.

6. Create six tags to fit in each of the pockets. I used a combination of cardstock, transparencies and paper layers. The tags are each approximately 5" X 4".

7. Embellish each of the pages with stickers, crepe paper, patterned paper and paper layers.

8. Now the album is embellished and ready for my daughter to write notes to her friend on each of the tags.

This is an easy interactive card that would work well for lots of occasions like graduations, Mother's Day, Father's Day and birthdays. You could even replace one of the tags with a gift card.

Hope you enjoyed this interactive card idea and you will try making one on your own!

Feeling Thankful

This month we were challenged with our Glitz assignments to do one layout focusing on the theme of gratitude. This is such a perfect topic for this month! Before starting my layout, I made a list of a bunch of things I was grateful for and knew that I'd like to incorporate this list into my page.

I typed up and printed out my thankful list on three different patterned papers and then hand cut each word out to use as a border on my page. This was a fun way to incorporate the journaling into the design of the layout.

For my second layout today, I'd like to share a page about my daughter at age 12. I had interviewed her about he favorite things on her birthday and wanted to include all of the information on a layout

I was inspired by the fantastic collection of banners on the patterned paper and decided to turn the photos into banners too.

The alpha stickers got quite a workout on this page. I thought it would be fun to do a combination of stickers and handwriting to share all of the info about my daughter. I like the playful feel all of the mixed fonts bring to the page.

Hope you are enjoying a November full of many things to be thankful for!

Happy Day

It's been a while since I've put a card together. Its seems like I've been a little lazy when it has come to cards lately, but yesterday I had a few extra minutes and put a birthday card together for a friend.

I think you'll agree that the big yellow blossom steals the show. It's from my friend Tessa's Precocious Paper etsy shop. She made one for each of the Scrapbook Circle August Kits and I'm so thankful for all of her beautiful work.

Happy 40th Birthday Card

Last night I went to surprise birthday party for a friend who is turning 40. Seems strange, but 40 isn't sounding quite as old as it used to!

All day I'd planned on putting a birthday card together, but there wasn't a free moment until 5 minutes before I had to leave. I pulled out the Be Amazing Kit and quickly put this card together. I love the small designs on the 6 x 6 paper pad.

With the help of some of the Scrapbook Circle Team, we packed up all of the Remember This kits today. Now I'm off to help with an art class in my daughter's 6th grade class. Tonight we're having this Crock Pot Chicken Parm recipe. I'm excited to try something new!

Enjoy today!

Joy & Jakey

A few weeks ago some friends and I had a craft morning where we altered paper mache letters for a Christmas project.

It was quick and simple and I like that a new Christmas decoration was created while having fun with friends. The supplies are all from my Christmas stash from the past couple of years.

I also just wanted to share a card I made for Max to take to his friend's birthday party.

I used the Note to Self December Scrapbook Circle kit for all of the card supplies. The colors in this kit are perfect for so many different event and they worked nicely for this card.

Hope you have a happy Monday!

Banana Bread and Birthday Cards

Hello!  Hope you are having a great day.

I'm enjoying bookmarking and trying out recipes that I discover through Pintrest. Last week I made this Marbled Chocolate Banana Bread and almost everyone in the family gave it two thumbs up. (Max won't eat anything with bananas, so he wasn't excited about the bread.) That just meant more for the rest of us.

The chocolate was perfectly soft and added a delicious touch to the moist banana bread. There are now a few more bananas turning brown on my counter so that I can make this again.

This recipe is my usual go-to banana bread recipe, but now I've added another favorite to the mix.

Also wanted to share a couple of cards that I made over the weekend. I used my Silhouette to cut the scalloped flower on the first card and then used the negative space for the second card.

The colors on this American Crafts paper are so festive and perfect for birthday cards!

Going to a Birthday Party...

My daughter went to a fun fire truck birthday party for a boy in her kindergarten class on Saturday. I had a few extra minutes before the party, so I decided to make a gift tag to attach to the gift.

I decided to pull our my Fancy Pants To the Moon products since they were perfect colors and theme for what I wanted to create.

Don't you just love that chipboard robot? So fun.

Since this was a tag and not a card with a back that let the card stand up, I had to grab something to help prop up the tag. The first thing I saw was my son's cereal (no milk) he had left from that morning. It was the perfect size to hide behind the tag. Just keeping thing real here. :)

Here's my sweet girl just before we headed out to the party with the present. We punched a hole in the corner of the tag and tied it to the bag.

I used to think that it was a waste of time to make cards for kids, but I've decided that it's a great way to use up my supplies to make room for new stuff. Plus it's a quick and fun creative project. What do you think?

To the Moon!

I've been having a lot of fun with the Fancy Pants To the Moon collection. The bright colors are so happy and playful!

Fancy Pants and Tombow teamed up for a blog hop this week and I made a couple of projects for it.

The first is a layout where I used Tombow Foam Tabs to create a fun textured background on this page.

I didn't want to waste a second piece of the paper by punching it, so I figured out where I wanted my photos and then cut the yellow paper out where the photos would cover it.

So only one piece of yellow paper was used!

My second project was a birthday card where I folded the back of the card over the front and closed it with a Tombow Fastener Tab.

The adhesive is a very strong and then works like Velcro so that it can open and close over and over. I definitely want to think of more open and close projects so that I can use more of this!

Fancy Pants posted these projects on their blog today and you can stop by and take a look if you'd like.

Hope you are having a fantastic Wednesday!

Having a Happy Birthday

Today I've been celebrating one of my sister's birthdays with visits to a couple of favorite restaurants and a little shopping. It's been a really fun day!

Since I'm celebrating my sister's birthday, I thought I share a birthday card I recently made for one of my kids to give to a friend at a party.

I used the Scrapbook Circle All You Need is Love Kit plus a card from this adorable set.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday No. 10

My daughter needed a card to go with a birthday present today, so I quickly put this card together before she had to go to the party this morning.
I love how happy and bright these papers are from the Jillibean Soup Egg Drop line. The base of the card is Jillibean's black bean paper. It was fun to play with the contrast on the darker background with the lighter colored papers.

The "No. 10" was cut from the Jillibean Old World Cabbage Stew Spring Onions paper.Seriously loving all of those numbers. Lots of ideas going though my head on how to use this sheet of paper.

Question for you...do you always make a birthday card to go with your gift?

I'm not always very good about this. Especially when it's for a kid's birthday party. Sometimes I'm a little lame and just tell the recipient the gift is from me when he/she is about to open it. Seems like I should ALWAYS have a card with a gift considering the amount of paper I have around here. Sometimes though I just run out of time and it's a no-card gift.

The white inked frame around my photo came from here and the mini alphas are from Jenni Bowlin.

Quick Card Idea

My son was heading out the door to a birthday party today and we needed a quick birthday take for him to take to the party.

We only had about 5 minutes and this is what I put together.I love the die cut edges of Sassafras paper. Here I used one of the zig zag edges to go along the bottom of the card. This was a simple trick to add some interest to the card without adding any time.I roughed up the edges of the circles and the blue paper with my fingernail. I just ran my fingernail along of the edges of the paper. Sometimes I ripped the paper a little just to give the paper a little more texture.

With the help of my two circle punches and a number 7 sticker, this really was a quick and simple card.
