Enjoy Life

A few days ago I saw this quote on Pinterest and loved it:

I read Marjorie Hinkley's book a few years ago and really enjoyed her common sense attitude and optimistic outlook on life.

Even if each day isn't great, I try to focus on the good things that happened.

Today I want to share one small and simple good thing with you that I discovered at a friend's house. I'm sure every knew this except for me. Use a clothespin to hold a dishtowel on the handle of the dishwasher.

My dishtowels were always falling on the floor and then I saw this simple solution and wondered why I hadn't thought of that.

Hopefully this will help you with your falling dishtowel issues!

Hope you enjoy today.

Project Life: Week Nine

It's hard to believe that it's already time to share another week of project life. Time is flying by.

This week was another full week for our family. Although I really love creating layouts, this is becoming my favorite way of documenting our daily life.  All of the little pieces of our life that might go forgotten and not being recorded.  Loving that!

This week I included one of our favorite breakfast & dinner recipes: Oatmeal Waffles. I love how hearty and delicious these are.  I highly recommend you give them a try.

These pages include a bunch of different paper that I received as samples at CHA and I can't find links to it since it's not out yet. Some of the paper is from Cosmo Cricket 2wenty-Three and Lily Bee Double Dutch. Other paper is from the older Create Paper Emma's Shoppe line.

Paper Layers + 12 on the 12th

This month, I am very excited about the Glitz blog challenge because it required that I use paper layers on one of my projects. Glitz paper layers are really easy to work with and come with a bunch of different designs, so they are perfect for layering, cutting and using on projects.

On my layout, I decided to use my Cameo to cut the title for the page out of one of the book papers and it worked perfectly! The book paper came out with really nice and clean cuts.

I also cut a 2" X 7" strip off of another book paper, pleated it and ran it through the sewing machine. Once that was done, I misted it to bring in more teal onto the page.

For a final touch on the page, I freehand cut a heart from a piece of book paper. I love that it's very thin and I don't have to tear up old books to get the look on my pages.

This year I've decided to play along with the Ella Publishing Take Twelve challenge which encourages us to take 12 photos on the 12th of each month. It's a pretty easy challenge and I love that I end up with photos that wound not have been taken without the challenge.

I decided to use all of the photos on a layout celebrating the little thing that happened on February 12.

The photos were printed at 2" X 2" so that all of the photos would fit on one page. Although none of the photos are particularly of fantastic quality, I love that together on a page they tell a story about our family life.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Feeling Lucky?

I don't really believe in being lucky, it's more about being blessed. But since it's St. Patrick's Day this month, I decided to go with the "lucky" theme and make a banner to hang in our dining room. One of these days I may tire of banners, but for now I still love them!

This was a pretty quick & simple project that used a limited number of supplies.

Want to make your own banner?  Here's what I did.

1. Cut 10 triangle banners out of burlap. Then I sewed them together in groups of two so that the pieces had more stability.

2. Used the Cameo to cut out the clover pieces and the gold letters. The gold cardstock was very thick and the Cameo did not cut all the way through the letters. It did cut nice deep lines that I could see well and the cutting was finished off with scissors.

3. The clover pieces were glued to the burlap with Tacky Glue and the gold letters were attached with my Scotch ATG adhesive.

3. For a final touch, I sewed ric rac along the top of the banner pieces.

I don't do much decorating for St. Patrick's Day. Actually, all of my decor is in the photo: a banner and the subway art sign from eighteen25.

Hope you have a lucky (& blessed) day!

Project Life 2012: Week Eight

Another week of project life is now complete. Still loving it and still plugging along with taking photos and collecting things to include each week.

This week was filled with school projects (big book report projects, reading for AR goals and memorizing poems) plus fun with neighbors, family and friends.

My husband and I had a date night with friends where we tried and new restaurant and went to the symphony.  I grabbed a takeout menu on our way out of the restaurant to cut up and use in the album.

I've approached this without having any rules of how to organize things each week. I just print out my favorite photos and place wherever they fit. I do count out how many of each size of photo I will need.

The past couple of weeks I've watched both Season One and Season Two of Downton Abby and have loved it. I had 4 different people recommend this to me and decided that I should give it a try.

The first season is available on Netflix instant streaming and the second season is available to watch on PBS.org until March 6th.

The story, costumes and character development are fantastic. Highly recommend this show!

You Make My Heart Sing

This morning I was scanning through photos on my computer and came across a photo I took of Hannah last week while she was posing for the camera. She is blowing me a kiss and I knew it needed to be used on a layout right away.

The coloring was a bit weird on the photo, so I played around in Photoshop with The Pioneer Woman's actions. The photo looks more processed than I usually like, but the style seemed to fit with the layout, so I went with it and added it on the page.

Last night I was thinking that I wanted to use my new Jenni Bowlin banner punch on a page and had the alternating triangle idea come to me right before I went to bed. Do you ever think of random scrapbook ideas at odd times too?  I went and sketched out the idea so that I wouldn't forget by morning.  I must say that I really like how it turned out!

The journaling highlights some of my favorite things about Hannah right now and I added the seven to represent her age.

Hope your week is going well!
